It is Pinewood Derby Day!! The boys were ready to hit the road but unfortunately for them it just wasn't time to go. The weigh in is at 12 so we had a little time to spare. Isaac spent his time playing and reading books. His bookshelf is currently in the middle of the bedroom floor and he prefers it that way I know because I tried to put the books back on the shelf and he told me what for. The boys vegged out in front of the TV while I did a load of laundry. Tomorrow is Scout Sunday so I have to get their uniforms washed. I know they were washed a few weeks ago but I honestly don't remember when. Finally we made it to the race...

Past Couple of Days
We have been quite busy the past couple of days. Wednesday we had co-op, I got to teach science to the 7+ but other than that I mainly hung out with Isaac in the little kid room. I am not sure how well the co-op is working out for us. The boys do not seem to be learning much BUT they do get to interact with a couple of kids their own age. Next week they will be staying for art so I am praying that everything works out. After lunch the boys helped Granny with her garden. They planted all kinds of seeds and are counting down to when they can harvest the crop. The garden is really big and has some of our favorite veggies :-)
Thursday my mom watched the boys while I went to the dentist. Micah mowed the backyard for her and Papa. He did a really good job but I need to take him back over there so he can mow the front. He loves mowing the yard (must be an age thing) because I don't find it as fascinating, lol. We didn't get home until almost 3 and Isaac decided it was time to play outside so that is where we were until it was time to start dinner. I do not know what get into him Thursday. He didn't go to sleep until almost 9:30. He was dancing and singing ;having a grand ol' time. Isaac loves music! He sings in the car, outside playing, in the house and everywhere he goes. He has no interest in TV unless music is coming from it. So yes he is an American Idol fan.
After school I took the boys to get new shoes. We went to the closest shoe store and Micah found a pair of sneakers and flip flops. Xavier on the other hand did not so we ended up at the mall. I tried looking for some skirts or dresses while we were there but I had no luck. I have come to the conclusion that I can either look like I am going clubbing or I can just not buy clothes that fit. So I am going to check out the thrift stores and hit the fabric store to pick up some material. Maybe I will do that this afternoon if I get the chance.

Tuesday's Cleaning
Tuesday morning we got to work early doing chores before we hit the books. Xavier decided to help out by taking pictures (he did clean the bathroom & vacuum a little bit). Isaac didn't want to miss out on the fun so he was in charge of sweeping and mopping.

First Day with HOW Creation
Today we started HOW Creation unit and overall it went pretty well. We didn't get around to making a poster comparing the secular & Biblical worldview like I had hoped but I won't complain because we did compare the 2 on the white board. The boys also entered 3 words into their vocabulary notebooks. We are just starting those today so I am being a little lax when it comes to them writing a sentence using the new word. Xavier also found 3 words while reading so he entered those also. The boys copied 2 verses from Genesis for penmanship and did their math without complaint. That is the biggest miracle of all. They did not complain about school once today - yay! We took a short break for lunch and then started SOTW. Micah did not realize we were starting it and he was thrilled to see me pull out the new book. Another break then we finished up the day's work (it was already 3:15). Now the boys are playing FunKeys and enjoying some free time before dinner. We have scouts this evening so we will have our Bible Study as soon as we get home and then it is to bed the boys go.

Here is a clip of our day :-) For some reason the boys wanted me to tape them as they ran across the yard. I think Micah forgot I was taping because he decided to beat up his little brother so to speak... Oh and yes Peanut was wearing a diaper although it does not look like it while he "pecked" the ground. It is a little shaky in places but maybe next time it won't be so bad, lol

My dream is to one day have some land where we can raise chickens, a couple of cows, guinea pigs and other animals. Unfortunately although we live on a piece of land big enough it is not mine. So the animals have to wait BUT my wonderful boys thought it would be fun to act like chickens for their momma and even taught baby bro to "peck" at the ground with his forehead. Luckily he didn't pick up their "chicken fighting". Which consisted of their arms being behind their backs as the tried to kick each other.

Sunday's Happenings
My sis-in-law's church was having a friendship picnic today and she invited the boys and I to go. We had a nice time hanging out with her and her daughters. Plus her brother (yes my bro-in-law) was there with his wife and kids. So we enjoyed the food and watching the kids play. I saw an old friend of mine. She is now one of the Pastor's of the church. We had a nice talk and I was invited to their women's retreat. Not sure if I will go but I will think about it.
We got home about a quarter to 5 because we had to stop by the store on the way home. Isaac played while I started dinner and we caught up with Granny about her and Papa J's fishing tournament. She caught a 6 pounder - GO GRANNY! Unfortunately it was not big enough to take Big Bass but that is okay - next time she will get it for sure:-)
Now the boys are watching a little TV after eating some ice cream. Isaac is playing with his Noah's Ark Little People and I get to surf the net. I need to do some final preparations for tomorrow's lessons but I will probably start that after Isaac is asleep. Otherwise he will definitely want to help me and that usually turns into me cleaning up a mess of papers while I try to keep him at bay. Then again he can manage to make a mess of papers even without me working on them. Gotta go...

Keeping Records
Last year I was really good about keeping records of the books we have read and things we did through out the year. Unfortunately this year I have not been as diligent about these things. Which is sad because last year I was in a state where the homeschool laws really did not require anything but now we live where I have to either have the boys evaluated by a teacher & keep a portfolio or they can take a standardized test. My only other option is to dis-enroll them as homeschool students and join an umbrella school. Which is what I might do. Either way I decided I need to go back and record the things we have done over the past few months. So I have been printing out some forms from donnayoung.org and spent some of last night filling them out.
Of course I got sidetracked (like I normally do) and while filling out the books and curriculum we have been using this year I decided I really don't like how our school is going. We have gone on quite a few field trips and done extra-curricular activities but the book work has been tedious and down right boring. So of course once again I have decided to change course midstream :-)
We have mainly been using Rod & Staff this year. Which I like but it is not very hands on, nor is it very active. The boys do their school and I don't do much with them because it is all text books. So off to the store I went and I picked up SOTW 3. We did the first 2 books awhile back ago and we really enjoyed it then. We are going to do it 2-3 times a week and should finish the first week of July.
BUT what I am most excited about is the Creation Unit we are fixing to start. I have been reading HOWTA (Heart of Wisdom Teaching Approach) and it has really spoken to my heart. So I decided to give it a test drive with their Creation Unit. If it works out then we will do the Wisdom Unit next then take a short break and begin Adam to Abraham combined with SOTW 1 in August. I do have high hopes for this curriculum and pray that it all works out as well as I would like.

MOTH
Recently on one of the groups I am on a lady asked about MOTH. I was surprised that only 2 of us have used it. In my opinion it is one of the best resources for Christian homeschooling families (meaning mom). Especially if you are anything like me, lol. My hubby says I am a great planner but the actual follow through seems to be a problem :-) Somewhere between me creating a schedule and implementing it I get side tracked. I always forgot about something I wanted to accomplish. Now I'd be lying if I said I started MOTH and everything was perfect. I still have to work at staying on task BUT the biggest difference is that I was able to block in time for everything I wanted to accomplish each day. My schedule isn't perfect but my family was a lot happier when it was in place.
Which is why I had to pull out the book again recently. When we moved to FL our old schedule fell apart and we have been floundering around like a fish out of water ever since. I wish we could be a fly by the seat of our pants family but it just doesn't work out to well. My boys and I thrive on structure. We just have to be careful that we don't let the clock rule us in the end. So the other night I sat down with my book and started putting our priorities down on paper. What I want the boys to accomplish daily, what I want to accomplish, and what just plain out needs to be done. Our needs have definitely changed since the last time we had a set routine. Our Bible study time in the evening no longer fits into a 1/2 hour slot and we want each of us to have time alone with the Lord on a daily basis. So... I finished up the rough draft and Tuesday we started implementing parts of it. Only problem - Wed. came. Which requires a whole different routine. So decision time has come do I just have Wed. be an off day or do I drop some of our outside activities to fit the routine we so desperately need?
Guess I will be doing a little prayer this evening...

Sit & Spin
When I brought the sit and spin home from my mom's house I thought Isaac would enjoy it. Well he does like to sit and stand on it but then his oldest brother decided to steal it.
Sea World
The boys think we are just wrong for going to Sea World and not getting wet but depending on what day you go in February it can be a little to chilly to sit in the splash zone. We had a good time none the less. The boys saw Shamu's show "Believe" which thrilled Micah to death. Last time we went the Shamu show was "The Making of Believe" and he wanted to come back and see it real bad. It took a couple of years but we made it. Joel and I didn't ride the coasters :-( but the trip was for the boys and they got to see all of the animals and play on the 4 story playground. The best thing about the day was the BBQ it cost us about $45 total but it was all you can eat and the food was pretty good. The next time I go to a theme park I am going to look for something like that before we even get there.

Wordspring
We went to Wordspring Discovery Center recently and had a blast. Wordspring is an interactive museum which tells about the Bible being translated into other languages. They have computer quizzes, wax people saying John 3:16 in different languages, different Bibles you can look at and other things to check out. It is kind of small but the boys really enjoyed it.
